Access control installer for the doors you already have
An access control installer links the card reader or keypad and the electric lock on each door to one control box, so people open doors with a card, a code or a phone. Answer three questions for a price per door and a short written brief an installer can quote from.

Price per door based on current door hardware
These are installed prices for each door, based on what is on it today. The price drops if the locks and cable already work and can be kept. It costs more for glass doors, fire-rated doors (built to hold back a fire) or doors far from the control box.
| On the doors now | Installed, per door | What usually happens |
|---|---|---|
| Keys only | $1,200 to $2,500 | Each door gets a card reader, an electric lock and new wiring, all run from one control box. People then open the door with a card or a phone. |
| Keypads | $500 to $1,500 | The keypads come off and card or phone readers go on. Locks and cable that test fine are kept. |
| Card or fob readers | $500 to $1,500 | The wiring and the locks usually stay, and often the readers too. The doors move over to a new control box and new software. |
| Not sure | $1,000 to $3,000 | An installer checks every door before quoting. A complete card or fob system (readers, control panels, cable and programming) usually costs this much. |

How an installation goes
Site survey
The installer walks every door and checks the frame, the lock, the power and the cable route back to the control box. You get the price in writing.
Installation
About 2 to 4 hours for one standalone door, 1 to 2 days for 3 to 5 networked doors, and 3 to 5 days for 10 to 20 doors.
Handover
Every door is tested, including the fire alarm release where there is one. Your people get their cards or phone keys, and you learn the app.
Have ready: the door count, what is on each door now, which doors are glass or fire-rated, and the landlord's OK to drill.

You pay individually for cards, licences, labor, cable, controllers, locks and readers. The breakdown lets you see where the money in a quote goes.

Door access installers need a low voltage, alarm or electrical license, set by the state or by the city. Every state page names the board and links to its license lookup.
Maglocks on exit doors must also release for the fire alarm. Read the egress rules
